DAVID - THE LION'S HEART

James David Childs' life began April 14, 1999, and ended abruptly via suicide on December 5, 2018.  From a young age, he demonstrated profound curiosity, tenacity, and sensitivity. David never ceded to the status quo; rather, he thought critically about the meaning of life and the character of God. He was a loyal friend, a creative thinker, and a caring listener. His witty sense of humor and deep care for others are sorely missed by his loved ones.

Although David was unspeakably loved, talented, and valued, he suffered from feelings of unbearable mental anguish, loneliness, and anxiety. Through his troubles, David fought to live for what matters. In middle school, he received the "Lion's Heart Award" for defending the defenseless, which he continued to do throughout his life. David passionately cared for the weak, and his legacy continues to inspire others to do the same.

Although David is no longer with us, his story alludes to the desperate need within each human being to love and to be loved. We strive to passionately fulfill this need so that no person feels obliged to suffer in isolation, but rather finds empowerment and peace in knowing true, empathetic community.

We forever love you, David.
